YouTubes - the week after spring break!

Kelowna Updates from KELOWNA!!

Hello all,

As we get closer to April 17th, here are a few pertinent reminders, as well as our warm-up schedule and current (although still changing!!) draw for the evening.

1) If all of your school's music is on one CD, please ensure that the tracks are labelled to match the draw order sent out today (i.e. Jr. Quad - Fleetwood 1).
2) Refund deadline for entries is April 1st.  Please advise us of any changes before this date if you wish to receive a refund.
3) Remember that our gymnasium is smaller than most and our maximum capacity means that tickets will likely NOT be available at the door.  The deadline for presale tickets has passed but if you have any additional ticket requests, please let us know ASAP and we will do our best to accommodate.  It is always a scramble to try and find extra tickets for parents who come in from out of town and we don't want to have anyone disappointed.
4) As we did in 2008, we will be running a two-panel judging system except for our Senior Hip Hop category.  This means that our schedule will alternate between Jr. and Sr. entries in order to keep the evening moving as quickly as possible.  As we get closer to the competition date, we will be sending out a complete order of events but for planning purposes, expect that we will follow the general outline sent out today, alternating between Sr. and Jr.
5) We wil not be selling DVDs but each school will get a complimentary DVD sent to them when they are ready.
6) Competition t-shirts are $17 and sweatpants are $30.  Presale orders will not be taken, but limited stock will be available the day of the competition.

Let me know if you foresee any problems or changes before the competition,

Jenn and Chantelle

Warm up schedule

• You may choose to use your time however you like whether that be to block without music or run all your pieces once through with music. Note: Please hand in your music to the technicians once you have checked in and been escorted to the gym.
• When your time is up you must immediately exit the stage for the next school.
• There is ample space around the school to go and review dances, warm-up, or discuss anything as a team once your designated time is over.
• Your school’s check-in time is 15 minutes prior to your warm-up time. Please ask your bus drivers to drop you off at the front of the school as the rear doors will be locked. This is also where you will find the registration station and can pick up your coaches packages.

Kelowna - Dance Teams - deadlines!

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As you know the dance teams will be going to Kelowna on April 17th and returning on the 18th. The fee for this is $100. This is due by Thursday, April 1, 2010 at 4:30.

I have attached a medical form that will also be due by Thursday, April 1, 2010 at 4:30.

I still require one male supervisor to join us on this trip. We have a lot of boys and we can not go on an overnight excursion without a male chaperone.

There will be a parent meeting after the Works in Progress show on April 8, 2010. The show begins at 7 and we should be done the show and the parent meeting by 8pm. I must meet with all parents before we go on the trip. If I do not get to meet a parent or guardian for a student then that student cannot participate in the field trip. Please make your best effort to attend the meeting on April 8th. (You will be helping me out a lot by doing this and I will be really happy if I get to meet everyone at this one time. I thank-you in advance for your help with this matter!! )

Here is the summary:

Kelowna - Dance Teams

Dear parents and guardians,

The Frank Hurt Dance Teams will be competing at Driven Dance Competition in Kelowna at Rutland Senior Secondary School. The cost to students is $100. This cost covers the bus and the hotel. The school is covering the cost of the competition and the Surrey Dance Teacher’s Association is covering the cost of the hotel for the teachers and the bus driver. Volunteers will not have to pay for their bus or hotel either as they will be supervising students the entire weekend.

There will be a parent meeting to go over all of the overnight field trip rules. This will take place at the Works in Progress Show on April 7, 2010 after the show is completed around 7:30. Please try to be there.

If you allow your son or daughter to attend this dance competition please sign and return the attached form as soon as possible. This way I can get our numbers organized accordingly.

New 7am morning practices???

I was thinking we could try a new 7am practice schedule starting after spring break... will this work??? What do you think???

Tues: Sr. Open
Wed: Jr. Hip Hop / Sr. Breakdance
Thurs: Sr. Hip Hop / Jr. Breakdance

Performance Opportunity: April 29th at the Bell Centre

Is anyone interested in performing?

Our Global Issues Club here at Sullivan is planning a "Hope for Haiti" fundraiser in the form of a talent show. They would really like to bring in talent/performances from outside the school to draw a bigger audience. It will be held on April 29th from 7-9pm and will take place in our Bell Theatre. I'm wondering if you have any kids in your program who would like to perform in the show (dance team?) It's for a great cause and would give the dancers the chance to perform on the big stage. Let me know what you think and if you'd be willing to send a routine or two...
