High School High - Juniors

Juniors I will meet you at High School High at 9am! Hopefully, I will have our seating map and wristbands ready and waiting for you :-)

YouTubes week 3!!!! OOPS!! (I had week 4 before... summer dreaming I guess!)

High School High TIME CHANGE... AGAIN!

Doors open at 8:30 and competition begins at 9:30 sharp

I am sorry for the inconsistancy of this competition. It is run by a private studio and it has been disappointingly disorganized. I have done some math to try and figure out what times our groups will be performing and this is what I have come up with:

Junior Dance Team should be on around 10:13am
B-Boy Battle around 12:20pm
Frank Hurt Senior Team around 1:33pm.

There is no official registration time like our competitions. Since this looks like it is going to be a very long day just make sure you are here a half hour before your performance time. You may leave right after or stay for the awards. I will be there from 8:30 until finish. I hope this helps you with organizing your time and your other activities!

See you there.. and HAPPY DANCING!!

Bikrams Yoga Field Trip

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We have a field trip on Wednesday, March 2, 2011 to Bikrams Yoga Delta. We will be taking taxis and my vehicle. We will be leaving the school at 11:30am and returning at 2:15pm. The cost is $15/student and all dance students are invited. This field trip is on a first come first serve basis – the first 15 students who have their forms signed and their money in get to come on the trip. What a great way to warm-up and get flexy for Spring!

Bikrams Yoga is the hot yoga. It is awesome for increasing strength and flexibility. It is comprised of two breathing exercises and twenty-six postures. It is important not to eat two hours before the class. Our class will be starting at 12pm so please don’t eat past 10am. If you have to eat it is best just to have a light meal or snack. Please make sure to pack a good lunch to eat on the way home from yoga! Some people get very hungry after yoga, while others have no appetite – so be prepared!

You need to bring two bath towels with you – one to lie on your yoga mat and the other to shower or dry off with after class. If you have a yoga mat please bring that as well because they do not have enough rental mats for everyone. You will also need a big water bottle. There is a filtered water tap in the washroom that you can use to fill up your bottle before and after class. Class attire is shorts and a tank top or sports top.

Please send exact change or make cheque out to Frank Hurt Secondary and include student name and student number in the memo section.

Happy Dancing,
Paula Johnson

First Notice Home Semester 2 2011

Dear Parents/ Guardians

Dance is a performance art so performing is a large part of a dance student’s education. Dance students are marked on their preparation as well as their skills demonstrated at these performances and at the dress rehearsal. Students will have the opportunity to perform informally in front of their peers and formally at assemblies, festivals and competitions. Notices of reminder and permission forms will be sent home when these events come closer.

The following performance and rehearsal dates are for shows at Frank Hurt Theatre. These performances are integral to the dance program. Please make note of these dates and help ensure that your child is in attendance. If there are any conflicts please inform your child’s teacher immediately.

This semester the dance department will be presenting two sets of evening shows. Our first show will be a workshop demonstration. This is a low-key performance on April 7 at 7pm and it is meant to be viewed by family members only. The purpose of this demonstration is for the students to display what they have learned and to be introduced to stage performance in a comfortable manner. This is not meant to be a polished show. Costumes and lighting will be very basic and the performances will be ‘works in progress.’ Students must be available for a dress/technical rehearsal on April 6 from 3-4pm.

Our second show is a formal performance with full costumes and lighting. The dress rehearsal will be held on June 3 from 12:30-2:30pm and the show will be on June 9 at 7pm.
