Footloose it is!!!
The dance teams have voted and Footloose wins this year! Footloose is Friday, Feb. 5, 2010 from 4pm - 10pm. This is a pro-d day for our school so the students will have to find their own way to the competition. Maybe we can get parents to carpool? Students can enter at 4pm but the audience will not be allowed in until 6pm - maybe carpool parents can go and have a nice dinner, shopping or a coffee??? Tickets are $8 in advance - deadline for buying advance tickets is JANUARY 8 at 8:30am. You may also purchase tickets at the door for $10 - but be safe and get your tickets early. I wouldn't want you to drive out and there be no tickets left at the door!!! Thanks!!

MISCELLANEOUS
Coaches and Dancers Organizational Meeting at 12:15 pm in the small gym. During this meeting I will explain/show the entrance and exit doors to the large gym, where we will be dancing.
All Dancers to LTSS before doors open at 12:00pm. They must enter through the back doors.
No Dancer will be allowed through the main gym doors.
First Aid will be available in the small gym.
Teams:
- If dance teams arrive early (10:30am – 12:00 pm) they may have one practice/rehearsal with no music. Once doors open to the public, no dance teams to be on the dance floor.
- All gym doors are to remain closed at ALL times. Don’t open the small gym doors for any reason. You will be asked to leave the building and will not be able to perform.
- Only Dancers and coaches are to be in the small gym. No friends or family.
- Please remind Dancers to keep all valuables with them at all times.
LTSS will not be responsible for lost or stolen items.
Dancer:
- Dancer is to bring school ID. – enter through back doors. No dancer to enter through front/main doors.
- Dancer will be check-in and be given a Wristband to be worn on the left wrist.
- Dancers must sit in the Dancer Seating area only. Please don’t stand, you will be asked to sit down.
- No Dancer to sit in general seating area, you will be asked to move.
- If you want to watch the other performances, you must enter the large gym through the gym-supply room doors, not the main entrance.
- No dancer to be hanging around the main door entrance.
- Dancers are asked to clean up garbage and their area in the small gym
- Dancers are not to do their makeup in the bathroom
Parents:
- Parents must wait until the doors open at 12:30pm to enter the building. (Unless it is snowing then we will open the door early
- Seats are first come first serve
- Video cameras are allowed but no flash photography please.

Costume Note: Coaches were to select a style that is age appropriate and tasteful with respect to a family audience, costumes that are not acceptable include; revealing/suggestive low V- necklines, tube tops or halters/spaghetti straps. I will not allow dancer/team to perform if costume is unsuitable.

A question from a mom about sweatpants -why don't we have them yet? Here is what I said:
Now, with the sweatpants - we needed more people to order them to get them at that price. We were all trying to round up more students to get enough to run the order. Since that failed, our new plan is to design a new pair of sweat pants and get them from our usualy printer which should be cheaper. If the students who have already ordered sweatpants don't like the new design or if you want your money back now I just need to fill out a form for the secretary and she will write you a cheque. If she likes them she will get a cheque for the difference. Sorry for the delay - I really want them too!! I am just waiting on a design right now. Thanks for the e-mail!! Have a great day!! On Thursday, December 17, 2009 we have a field trip to Bikrams Yoga Delta. The bus picks us up at 1pm and drops us back off at 4:45pm. The cost is $15/student and all dance students are invited. This field trip is on a first come first serve basis – first students who have their forms signed and their money in get to come on the trip. What a great way to start off your Winter Break! Let’s get in shape before the January rush!
Bikrams Yoga is the hot yoga. It is awesome for increasing strength and flexibility. It is comprised of two breathing exercises and twenty-six postures. It is important not to eat two hours before the class. Our class will be starting at 1pm so please don’t eat past 11am. If you have to eat it is best just to have a light meal or snack. Please make sure to pack a good lunch to eat on the way home from yoga! Some people get very hungry after yoga, while others have no appetitite – so be prepared!
You need to bring two bath towels with you – one to lie on your yoga mat and the other to shower or dry off with after class. If you have a yoga mat please bring that as well because they do not have enough rental mats for everyone. You will also need a big water bottle. There is a filtered water tap in the washroom that you can use to fill up your bottle before and after class. Class attire is shorts and a tank top or sports top.
Parents, you are invited as well! Is this something that you have always wanted to try? Why not come and sweat it out with us and learn something new – or if you are an old pro – come and show off your moves!!

This field trip takes place on Monday, November 9, 2009. We leave Frank Hurt on a school bus at 11:20am and we return on a school bus at 5pm. We will have an hour to eat after we dance. Please bring money for food. There are many choices: pizza, sushi, McDonalds, Burger King, pitas. Please bring comfortable clothes to dance in and water.
Works in Progress Show
Wednesday, November 18, 2009: 3:00 – 4:00 – Works in Progress Dress Rehearsal at Frank Hurt Theatre
All dance classes and teams will be rehearsing.
Dress rehearsal is mandatory and for marks for dance classes.

Dance Team rules – why we have them
I have to admit, I have been getting some bad vibes about how strict dance team is. I want to make it clear to everyone that I am not mean or scary or unfair. We have rules and contracts for dance team so that everyone is treated equally and to learn to be responsible members of a team. If we had no rules you would not be the strong dedicated teams that you are. If we make excuses for one person and not for another feelings could be hurt and misunderstandings could occur which would soon start to break away at our strength. Also note, that dance team is an honour and a privilege and it is not something that I am required to do. I run five teams and live at the school for you because you are amazing and you are dedicated.
The NEW sick policy
If you are sick you should stay home. Please bring a note from your parents indicating that you are ill. These practices will not be counted if you have a note. Please include the practice date that you missed, your name, and your parent’s signature.
If you are sick, but not too bad – please come to practice to participate by watching and giving feedback. This way you will not miss as much.
If you do miss practice it is your responsibility to learn what you have missed and catch up – hopefully before your next practice. (This would be a bit hard for juniors!)

Each semester I take 23 students to dance at Harbour Dance Centre downtown Vancouver. This is an awesome opportunity for dancers to learn new styles and choreography from new teachers. Thanks to the Surrey Dance Teachers’ Association, the cost to students is $25. (Last year it was $20 but the Surrey Dance Teacher Association paid the GST and transportation.)

Frank Hurt Secondary School Senior Dance Team Member’s Contract
As a member of the Frank Hurt Dance Team I agree that I have the following obligations to my team, coach, my choreographers and myself.
In the school:
Obey all school rules
Obey any classroom rules instituted by different teachers
On the team:
To attend all practices/meetings – This is extremely important for team building
To arrive at all practices and performances prepared, on time, and ready to participate
To listen to my coach/ dance captain and follow their instructions
To be positive in all of my comments and actions
If a student quits without valid reason (valid would be: injury, academic considerations, parent request) or is removed from the team for discipline reasons, the student will not be permitted back on the Dance Team the following season.
If a student misses a Dance Team practice they must show responsibility by informing the coach ahead of time. Excuses may need to be verified. A team member is only allowed to miss 3 practices in an entire season so think carefully before you miss. If a student misses more than 3 practices they will be removed from the team.
If a student is experiencing academic or behavioural problems in school he or she may be placed under suspension from the team until the matter is cleared up. Further team penalties may follow at the coach’s discretion.
This is a competitive team and performances will take place outside of school. Students must do everything possible to attend all performances. If a student cannot attend they must inform their coach as early as possible. Students will also be responsible for finding their own transportation to most performances/competitions.

Hawaii Update!!! Payment Schedules - Choose one!
I need a $150.00 payment (refundable until September 15, 2009) at the meeting to secure a seat for the trip. Only 50 seats are available. The LTSS Cheer Team and Dance Team are going as well. Here are the payment options for the Aloha International Spirit Championship Dance and Cheer Competition February 16 – 21, 2010 in Honolulu, Hawaii. All cheques are to be made out to LTSS (Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary School). Please choose only one Payment Schedule.
Cost of Trip ($1699) with Medical and Cancellation ($66.40) is $1765.40
